Ashoka Nordics is the first independent and systems change oriented organization covering the Nordics. We bring nearly 40 years of experience working globally with systems change, social entrepreneurship and how to inspire and enable more people to become Changemakers in their lives, businesses, communities and beyond.
In a nutshell, we empower the Nordic population to become Changemakers, so that we can continue strengthening our unique welfare model.
One of the fundamental insights of Ashoka is that behind every problem in society is a broken mindset that tries to solve our present and future challenges with old solutions. We believe that to create a world in which everyone is practicing changemaking, we need to change systemic mechanisms (policies, rules, infrastructures, etc), as well as the mindsets (worldviews, paradigms, etc.) that determine people's behaviour.
Another key insight we draw from our work with Ashoka Fellows is that complex changes in systems and mindsets cannot be achieved alone and that collaboration and collective impact are essential.

A Changemaker recognizes other people’s challenges through empathy, and is driven by the genuine goal of making the world a better place. A Changemaker also unlocks and unleashes the Changemaker potential in others through creativity, an open-mind, and curiosity, to work together towards a greater good. A Changemaker is not a “lone hero” entrepreneur, but leads teams to collectively achieve more impact.
We cultivate ecosystems that enable the “Everyone A Changemaker” world and the
work of Changemakers because the mindset shift we strive for needs a solid support system to flourish in.
For the good of all = empathy + new leadership. We do not strive for an Everyone A Changemaker world for the sake of it. We work towards a world where everyone is a Changemaker to ensure changemaking for the greater good. We need to make sure changemaking is based on the competencies of cognitive empathy and good modern leadership.
We create momentum by growing and strengthening the Ashoka Nordic Fellows. Supporting them to increase their potential and that of their organizations. It is through our selection process and work with them that we identify the emerging patterns of social change in the Nordics; bring more changemakers to the Nordic ecosystem; and learn new strategies to achieve greater impact in the Nordics. Essentially, we strive to empower them to change the world.
We enable young people in the Nordics to identify and act as Changemakers. Based on our global experience we know that to become a Changemaker or Social Entrepreneur, we require new skills. Changemaking skills have become as essential as reading and writing and need to be nurtured early in life.
We need to put new generations in charge of leading a world in which Everyone is a Change-maker.
We create exponential impact by forming ”trigger communities”, or ecosystems, in which our Change-makers and partners work together to fix problems through system change solutions. It also allows us to unleash change-making in in our partners, and the hundreds of thousands of potential Changemakers they employ.
Together our Changemakers and Community are architecting this brave new world.
Ashoka is a team of people working together to advance a world in which Everyone is a Changemaker.
